Systems biology is increasingly popular, but to many biologists it remains unclear what this new discipline actually encompasses. This brief personal perspective starts by outlining the asthetic qualities that motivate systems biologists, discusses which activities don't belong to the core of systems biology, and eventually explores the crucial link with synthetic biology. It concludes by attempting to define systems biology because the research endeavor that aims at providing the scientific foundation for successful synthetic biology.
Systems biology has been responsible for variety of the foremost important developments within the science of human health and environmental sustainability. it is a holistic approach to deciphering the complexity of biological systems that starts from the understanding that the networks that form the whole of living organisms are quite the sum of their parts. it's collaborative, integrating many scientific disciplines – biology, computing , engineering, bioinformatics, physics et al. – to predict how these systems change over time and under varying conditions, and to develop solutions to the world’s most pressing health and environmental issues.
