Neurocytology (uncountable) The study of nerve cells, or neurons; cytology of the systema nervosum. Neurons in human skin perform advanced calculations, previously believed that only the brain could perform. A characteristic of neurons that reach into the skin and record touch, is that they branch within the skin in order that each neuron reports touch from many highly-sensitive zones on the skin. The Nissl stain reacts with most of the cells during a brain slice (both neurons and glial cells), so it's not great for seeing the detailed morphology of one neuron. However, it's great for seeing the cellular patterns of a specific brain area. Golgi Stain. Golgi stains allow a view of only occasional cells, and therefore the selection process remains unknown. But the cells that are selected are shown in their entirety, including all of the dendrites and sometimes the axon, also because the cell body.
