Agave amica, formerly Polianthes tuberosa, the tuberose, is a perennial plant in the family Asparagaceae, subfamily Agavoideae, extracts of which are used as a note in perfumery. Now widely grown as an ornamental plant, the species was originally native to Mexico. Tuberose is a perennial plant growing about 1 metre tall from an underground bulb. The plant has been cultivated for centuries in warm temperate to tropical climates, both as an ornamental plant and for the essential oil obtained from the flowers. Fusarium rot disease of Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa L.), caused by the vascular wilt pathogen Fusarium oxysporum, is a major production constraint in Tuberose growing regions of Iran. Samples collected from different fields in Dezful Khuzestan province, and 110 isolates of F. oxysporum recovered. Genetic diversity among F. oxysporum isolates determined using vegetative compatibility groups (VCGs) and Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) techniques. In the first experiments, 45 isolates selected randomly to VCG test. Nit mutants generated on MMC and Czapeck media each containing 3% KClO3. The isolates assigned to into four VCG groups. These isolates also characterized by RAPD technique into six genetic groups at 61% similarity level. Cluster analysis of the RAPD data showed a close agreement with VCG grouping in some cases. Polianthes is a formerly recognized genus of plants in family Asparagaceae, subfamily Agavoideae.
