The health professionals, especially medical doctors, do have a key role in imparting correct knowledge and eliminating the barriers regarding organ donation among the public since they are the first individuals to create a relationship with a potential donor's family. However, the ground reality in India is that the identification of brain death and requesting consent from the next to the kin is often given less priority by the doctors and hospital staffs.
