Maxillofacial Prosthetics is a branch of prosthodontics under dentistry that involves rehabilitation of patients with born or acquired defects or disabilities. Maxillofacial Prostheses are frequently needed either to replace missing areas of bone or tissue and re-establish oral functions such as swallowing, speech, and chewing or for cosmetic and psychosocial purposes. Maxillofacial prosthetics integrates parts of various disciplines including head and neck oncology, congenital malformation, plastic surgery, speech, and other related areas.
