Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
Type 1 diabetes mellitus is characterized by destruction of the pancreatic beta cel ls. A common underlying factor in the development of type 1 diabetes is a genetic susceptibility. Destruction of beta cells leads to a decrease in insulin production. Glucose taken from food cannot be stored in the liver anymore
Type 1 diabetes (T1D), previously known as juvenile diabetes, is a form of diabetes in which very little or no insulin is produced by the pancreas. Insulin is a hormone required for the body to use blood sugar.
