Hyperlipidemia Lipid is the scientific term for fats in the blood. At proper levels, lipids perform vital operations in our body, but it can also cause health problems if they are present in more amounts. The term means high lipid levels. Hyperlipidemia includes several conditions, but it usually means that you have high cholesterol and high triglyceride levels.Hyperlipidemia means increased levels of fat in body. Elevated lipoproteins in the blood are detected. Obese people tend to have hyperlipidemia. It is commonly seen in people who have diabetes & who have family history. It is a clinical condition which is characterized by increased levels of all lipid or all lipoprotein in the blood. Most common cause of hyperlipidemia are diabetes mellitus, renal failure, nephrotic syndrome, and alcohol consumption etc. It can be managed by modifying regular diet, regular exercise, medication etc. there are two types of hyperlipidemia which are: Familial or primary hyperlipidemia & Acquired hyperlipidemia.
