Hematology, , is the branch of  science and medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. These include blood and bone marrow cells. Hematological tests can help diagnose anemia, infection, hemophilia, blood-clotting disorders, and leukemia. Problems with the blood can impede many functions of the body and cause a range of complications. For this reason, hematology —the study and treatment of blood disorders — is a subspecialty of internal medicine. The links between hematology and oncology mean that some doctors train in both. If a doctor refers a person to an oncologist, it may not mean that the doctor suspects cancer. The study of blood and blood-forming organs, including the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases of the blood, bone marrow. 

 It is the subspecialty of internal medicine that focuses on the care of patients with disorders of the blood, bone marrow, and lymphatic systems. Hematological assays are used to determine pathogenicity of different pathogens by analyzing rings of alpha, beta and gamma hemolysis on agar and nutrient plates. It is one of the most important lab experiments used.
