The medical specialty which provides continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family. It is the specialty in breadth which integrates the biological, clinical, and behavioral sciences. The scope of family practice encompasses all ages, both sexes, each organ system, and every disease entity. In the increasingly fragmented world of health care, one thing remains constant: family physicians are dedicated to treating the whole person. Family medicine's cornerstone is an ongoing, personal patient-physician relationship focusing on integrated care.

Unlike other specialties that are limited to a particular organ or disease, family medicine integrates care for patients of all genders and every age, and advocates for the patient in a complex health care system. Family practice, also called family practice or general practice, field of drugs that stresses comprehensive primary health care, no matter the age or sex of the patient, with special emphasis on the relatives . Anthropological definitions have a broad scope: the ‘family’ is seen as a domestic unit, usually linked by blood or other clan relationships, where one or more members are dependent on the others for their mutual material and emotional function and sustenance.
