It uses a balloon-tipped catheter to open a blocked blood vessel and improve blood flow. It opens blocked arteries and restores normal blood flow to your heart muscle. It is not major surgery. It is done by threading a catheter (thin tube). It is a treatment that uses stents to improve blood flow to the heart by opening a narrowed or blocked coronary artery. Angioplasty, also called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), is a procedure used to open blocked coronary arteries (caused by coronary artery disease). An angioplasty and stenting procedure is recognized as the best way to stop a heart attack in progress. Coronary angioplasty is a treatment that helps improve the blood supply to your heart. Angioplasty and stenting for stenosis of the extracranial vertebral artery are associated with potential complications such as transient arterial spasm, dissection. It is a process n which a tiny device is inserted into narrowed blood vessels that supply blood to the heart.  Interventional cardiologists perform angioplasty, which opens narrowed arteries. They use a long, thin tube called a catheter that has a small balloon on its tip.
