The Swedish Foundation for
Health Care Sciences and
Allergy Research (The Vårdal Foundation) was formed by the Swedish government in 1994 to support research and postdoctoral
education focusing on the
healthcare sector and on allergies and other hypersensitivity.
Research grants may be awarded for basic and applied research, especially to research projects and programmes of an interdisciplinary nature. The Foundation collaborates with other funding organisations to achieve more robust research financing than what each organisation could achieve individually. To date, about SEK 850 million have been granted in research support. More than 1000 research projects and about 10 centres of excellence for
health care and allergies have received financial support. In addition, certain targeted measures were implemented in areas where particular needs have been identified.
