Urban Institute was founded in 1968. Sarah Rosen Wartell is a president of the Urban Institute which is a nonpartisan social and economic policy research institute in Washington D.C. In 2013 the institute consists of 54% of Urban's operating funds, private foundations another 30%, and nonprofits, corporations and corporate foundations, state and local governments, international organizations and foreign entities, individuals. Some of the sponsors of Urbana Institute are, Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Henry J. Kaiser
Family Foundation, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation.
The staff of Urban Institute is approximately 450, which works in several research centers and program areas among them some of the centres are
Health Policy Center;
Education Policy Center; Income and Benefits Policy Center; the Center on International Development and Governance; the
Justice Policy Center; the Labor, Human Services, and Population Center and the Low Income Working Families project.
