The University of Tasmania is a public Australian university based in Tasmania, Australia and it is a sandstone university which is a member of the international Association of Common wealth Universities. The University offers various undergraduate around 21,243 students, graduate students around 5,540 programs with the Academic staff of 1,226. It was established in the year 1890, after the abolition of overseas scholarships freed up funds.
The University of Tasmania has six faculties, of which six are divided into schools and three are institutes which includes Faculty of Arts, Tasmanian School of
Business and Economics
Faculty of Education, Faculty of Health, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Science, Engineering & Technology, Australian Maritime College, Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, Menzies Research Institute Tasmania. Presently, the university is following the secretariat role of the International Antarctic Institute which was established in 2006 in partnership with 19 institutions in 12 countries.
The Australian Maritime College (AMC), which is situated adjacent to the Newnham campus, integrated with the university in 2008. The University of Tasmania and TasTAFE are now the only institutions of higher
education in Tasmania. The universitys research themes are Antarctic and Marine, Community Place and Change, Sustainable Primary Production, Population and Health, Environment, Frontier Technologies.
