The University of Cape Coast was established in the year 1962 as a University College, and was under University of Ghana. Late in the year 1971, the College became an Autonomous university. The university was established to provide good
education and skilled manpower. The university was initiated with only two departments i.e. Arts and Science. Later the other faculties like Arts, Education, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Biological Sciences, Business, Medical Sciences, and Physical Sciences were introduced. The university provides various degrees like BA, B.Com, BEd, BSc, LLB, MA, MBA, MEd, MSc, MPhil, MBChB, OD, and PhD.
