Universite de Fribourg

The University of Fribourg is located in the city of Fribourg Switzerland. This is the only bilingual University of Fribourg and is unique in offering taught and courses of French and Germany. The roots for this University has started and traced in the 16th century of year1580. The Academy of law was founded by the state of Fribourg, which formed the nucleus of the present Law Faculty. . In 1886, Georges Python, founder of the cantonal bank and State Counselor for Fribourg raised funds through a lottery and was granted some 2,500,000 CHF by the canton. This University is finally created in 1889 by the Act of Parliament of Swiss Canton of Fribourg. This is established in 1582/1763 and finally in 1889. The Misericorde Campus, constructed between 1939–1942. The Perolles campus was constructed on the site of a former wagon factory. In 1939, the university moved to a new campus constructed on the former cemetery of Misericorde, ceding St. Michel to one of Fribourgs gymnasia, which took the name College St. Michel. In 2005, the university inaugurated its Perolles 2 campus, to which the Faculty of Economics and Social Science relocated. The courses which are offered in this University are Bachelors ,Masters & Doctorates,The international institute of management in technology (iimt), Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Cross-Cultural Business Practice. The "Master of Laws in Cross-Cultural Business Practice" (MLCBP), an LL.M taught entirely in English. The University has no central campus and its buildings are located throughout the city. The Faculty of Humanities ,The Faculty of Law, The Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, The Faculty of Science. The number of students in this University as of now is 10,701. The ratio between the students and the staff is 46:2. The numbers of International students are 18%. The ratio of female: male is 58:42.the number of students who are enrolled in the bachelors, masters and PhD programmes. The numbers of students in this University make up a community of and cover almost a quarter of the city’s population. The number of Adminstrative staff is 1150 & admin staff is 750. The Professor Astrid Epiney is the Rector of this University. He is the royalty member of this University Prof. Paul Cantonneau, modelled on Georges Python, is a Professor at Fribourg in one of the Tintin comics.
