About the University: Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology was established in the year 2007 is the public university in South Korea which is dedicated to research in science and technology in response to growing demand for higher education. UNIST is known for being the first national university in South Korea to be incorporated and thus administered by an independent board of trustees despite being funded by the central government. UNIST has the vision of becoming a world-leader in the advancement of science and technology for the prosperity of humankind. The current president of the university is Mooyoung Jung. University Statistics: UNIST is ranked as # 32 in the nation and as # 886 in the world. There are about 4052 undergraduate and 1332 post graduate students, the university has 391 academic staff, 288 administrative staff. It has a total of 52 student groups in the areas of: academics, cultural, sports, social, volunteering. It has over 190,000 volumes of books, more than 10,000 titles of
journals and 20 databases in Science and Technology. To ensure UNIST’s standing among the best universities, UNIST boasts 100% English lectures, and is currently the only university in Korea that can make this claim. University Research: UNIST has recently established two research centers focusing on revolutionary ideas and research. The first, the Hans Scholer
Stem Cell Research Center, was established jointly with the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine. This center is striving to advance
stem cell research as well as their eventual application to medical issues. The second center, the Graphene Research Center, has the 2010 Nobel Laureate in Physics, Dr. Novoselov from Manchester University in the UK, as its honorary director. This center is investigating the nature of graphene and its derivatives on the atomic scale and exploring avenues where this can be applied.
