Southern Illinois University is situated in Carbondale, Illinois, United States. The University is governed by 9 board members in whom 7 are appointed by governor and that will confirmed by state senate and the rest 2 by the student bodies of Carbondale and Edwardsville campuses. SIU was founded in the year 1869 as Southern Illinois Normal College. Presently it includes 8 colleges and 3 schools.
The main campus i.e, Edwardsville campus is located on 2,660 acres of scenic woodland and lakes. SIUE operates its Dental
Medicine campus in Alton. SIUE includes the College of Arts and Sciences. It had 11,229 under graduates and 2,621 graduate students.
The Southern Illinois School of
Medicine is an integral part of SIUC which operates its first year program in Carbondale and the final three years in Springfield. In 1972 Southern Illinois School started Southern Illinois School of Dental
Medicine with 200 students under the university.
