Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University was founded in 1975 to enlarge the scope of higher
education in Morocco and particularly in the Imperial city of Fez; the first capital of Morocco. Fez was built in 808 AD and since then considered the spiritual city of the Kingdom. Fez becomes famous because of Al Quaraouiyine University; its oldest institution. Indeed, Al Quaraouiyine University is the oldest university in the world. It dates from 859 AD when a woman–Fatema Fihria- endowed a part of
her fortune to set up a university.
