Shih Chien University, formerly known as Shih Chien College of Home Economics, was founded in 1958 by Mr. Tung-Min Shieh. The name “Shih Chien,” which in Chinese means “practice”, was originated from the belief of Wang Yangming, a great Chinese philosopher: “Knowledge is the beginning of practice. Doing is the completion of knowing” (1498). Shih Chien University kept this motto in mind while implementing and expanding its educational vision. Over the years, the institution evolved from a junior college to a bachelor’s degree granting institution and was renamed Shih Chien College of Design and
Management in 1991. In 1997, the institution was promoted to university status.
College of Design consists of 4 departments, which includes 4 bachelor’s degree and 4 master’s degree programs. Department of Fashion Design, Department of Industrial Design, Department of Architecture Design, Department of Communications Design. College of Human
Ecology was established in 1997 with the mission to advance the human experience by integrating academics and research in the areas of social work,
family study, child development, music, food science, nutrition, and restaurant management. The college is with nearly 2500 undergraduate students, more than 120 graduate students, and 51 faculties.
College of
Management currently has seven departments and two graduate schools, including Department of
Business Administration (master degree program), Department of Information Technology and
Management (master degree program), Department of International Business, Department of
Finance of Banking, Department of Accounting, Department of Risk
Management and Insurance, Department of Applied Foreign Language, Graduate Institute of
Finance and Insurance, and Graduate Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship
