Shaw University is a non-profit higher
education institution located in Raleigh, North Carolina. It is the oldest university established by Henry Martin Tupper in the year 1865, making it one of the oldest institutions in the US. Henry Martin Tupper was a native of Monson, Massachusetts, soldier by profession and a graduate from Amherst College and Newton Theological Seminar. At the present time Dr. Tashni-Ann Dubroy serves as the university President. It happens to be the first in United States to offer a four year medical program, it also happens to be the historically first Black college to allow women to participate in educational facilities. Story doesn’t end here; Shaw University is also the first college to receive “A” accreditation by the State Department of Public Instruction.
The students admitted to the university excel not only in academics but also in extracurricular activities. Shaw’s women’s basketball team in the year 2012 won its NCAA Division II National Championship beating Ashland (88-82). Apart from these the college performs many charity programs as well.
Presently the university offers about 30 degree programs and admitted about 18,000 students.
Shaws
