Rush University is a private university on the West Side of Chicago, Illinois. The university, founded in 1972, is the academic arm of Rush University Medical Center.University consists of 4 different affiliations namely Rush medical college, Rush university college of nursing, Rush university college of health sciences, The graduate college of Rush university. The college is named for Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a Pennsylvania physician, who counted George Washington among his patients. He became a medical and humanitarian leader after the Revolutionary War. He was also a social activist, a prominent advocate for the abolition of slavery, for scientific education for the masses— including women—and for public medical clinics to treat the poor. At his death in 1813, he was the most celebrated physician in America.Rush University is being accredited by the higher learning commission. Shannon Halloway, BSN, RN and PhD student in the Rush University College of Nursing, recently netted best student paper honors from the Midwest Nursing Research Society for her work exploring health issues in the older adult population. HSM made unprecedented news when it won both health care student case competitions in a single academic year. A team of three Rush University HSM students won the prestigious national 2011 Everett V. Fox Student Case Competition. Another HSM student team won the 2012 Health Administration Case Competition sponsored by the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Health System.
