Prince Mohammad bin Fahd University, abbreviated PMU, is a private university in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. It was founded by Prince Muhammad bin Fahd, former governor of the Eastern Province.
The University is accredited by the Saudi Ministry of
Education and regionally by NCAAA (The National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment with responsibility for determining standards and procedures for accreditation and quality assurance and accrediting postsecondary institutions and programs within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Commission is an independent authority, responsible to the Higher Council of Education. The Commissions objectives specified in its by
law include a wide range of functions associated with support for improvements of the quality of postsecondary
education in all fields of learning other than defense. Internationally, the university is seeking accreditation from various accreditation bodies. Currently, the
Electrical Engineering department is accredit by ABET. Applications for accreditation of the Civil and Mechanical Engineering departments are submitted to the same accreditation body. The university was inaugurated in April 2006and was formally opened on 8 October 2008 with bachelors degrees in 17 academic programs with some courses taught in Arabic (many are being taught in English currently). It is composed of three colleges: College of Engineering - Civil and Mechanical for males, and Interior Design for females), College of
Business (both genders- but in segregated programs with most of the faculty on the male side) and College of Information Technology (both genders). In March 2008 it started an Executive EMBA program in conjunction with Maastricht School of Management. As of 17 March 2012, the affiliation with Maastricht was terminated by Maastricht.
PMU is an eight-year old private teaching university with essentially two postgraduate programs not yet completely fulfilling their potential. PMU intends to build on its potential, entrepreneurial spirit to raise its research productivity in selected fields and to lead the graduate
education with a clear vision to be among the top comprehensive private universities in the KSA.
• English as a Foreign Language (EFL): to prepare students for success in the English medium environment of PMU by developing strong English-language skills in academic reading, writing, speaking and listening.
• Mathematics: to enhance students’ understanding of mathematics in the English language as well as to prepare them for the study of college level mathematics.
• Theories and Application of Learning I (Study Skills I): to develop self-directed, self- motivated, analytical students who employ a variety of effective learning skills and strategies in all their academic courses.
• Theories and Application of Learning II (Study Skills II):to develop the technological skills essential for success in the degree programs.
PMU has a strong commitment to becoming a premier global university serving the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Gulf Region and the world. In support of this commitment, Institutional Relation has responsibility for establishing and maintaining strong and long-lasting
relationship with selected organization in academia, industry and government in key markets around the world. We seek to build partnerships that are specifically designed to create and implement specific programs, which effectively respond to the vision and objectives of the PMU and its partners. We seeks partners interested in taking an active role in the point development of programs that elevate the quality of
education and research and help build a stronger global community. The Institutional Relational Division at PMU provides leadership in the development and implementation of the institutional strategy. Its activities are focused on the continuous positioning of PMU in the global market place.
PMU seeks to forge and maintain
relationships at the highest levels of government, academia, industry and the
business community around the globe. Our focus is on forming partnerships that allow us to better serve our students, faculty and the surrounding community, and to become an integral part of the global community.
Many initiatives are continuously deployed and result in extending the University reach to the USA, Europe and Asia- Pacific. Program-driven agreements were signed with international academic institutions, with global corporations, and with international service companies. PMU also has constant dialogue with selected universities in the USA, Western and Eastern Europe, and lately with renowned Asian institutions.
