Peking Union Medical College

Peking Union Medical College was founded in the year 1906 by a group of English and American institutions in Beijing, People’s Republic of China. It was established by the Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A., the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, the London Missionary Society, the Board of Foreign Missions of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel and the Medical Missionary Association of London, together with the then-Chinese government. It is now affiliated with Tsinghua University of China. The university celebrated its 90th anniversary in the year 2011. The prominent schools of the university are: Institute of Basic Medical Sciences of Academy of Medical Sciences and School of Basic Medicine, founded in 1978. The university was awarded various prizes for its significant contribution to medical research, some of which are: The State Technological Research Awards, Beijing Technological Development Awards, Chinese awards for medical technology and Technological Development awards of institutes of higher learning.
