The Pavol Jozef Safarik University was established in 1959 in Kosice, Slovakia. The university was named after Pavol Jozef Safarik, a scientist, an educator and an prominent figure in Slovak history. The university comprises of five different faculties: Faculty of Science, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Public Administration, Faculty of
Law and Faculty of Arts. The university has made significant contributions in the field of
Medicine and Pharmacology. The University is in collaboration with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, National Science Foundation, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and other organizations like Intas and COST. The research and educational units of the institute constitute: Institute of Physical
Education and Sport and Botanical Garden.
