Oman Medical College is the first private
Health Sciences College in Oman established in 2001. It is the second medical college in Oman. The premedical campus is located in Bowsher. The curriculum and school leadership are provided by West Virginia University, U.S.A., which give the students an opportunity to obtain a U.S.-style Medical or Pharmacy degree entirely within Oman. In first year the course is completely with foundation. Second and third year are taught in premedical campus. And then to the medical school years of Sohar campus. And at last some part of work in Rustaq hospital, with students taking courses with doctors at Rustaq hospital. Associated with Sohar campus, which is one of the biggest hospitals of Oman. The total course period is 7 years and the student is awarded as Doctor of medicine. It also offers the degree in pharmacy which is for 5 years.
The Government of Oman has extended its support to the project by sponsoring a large number of Omani students, giving free land, and above all, by dedicating the Sohar Regional Hospital as the teaching hospital of the Oman Medical College.
