The National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology (NIANP) conducts basic and fundamental research to address physiological and nutritional problems related to biophysical translation of nutrients for productive functions in livestock, Develops quality human resource in frontier areas of animal nutrition and physiology and also carries out research translation to connect discovery with applications. Established on 24th November 1995 at Bangalore under the aegis of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, it is headed by the Director, Dr. Raghavendra Bhatta. Their vision is enhancement of productivity for profitable and sustainable livestock production. Their prime focus being the betterment of yield and reproductive efficiency in livestock through basic physiological and nutritional approach. Their objectives include Improving nutrient assimilation and physiological functions for enhancing livestock production, Feeding strategies for reducing climate change impact on livestock and human resource development. NIANP, Bengaluru has carved out a prominent place in the NARS system with its substantial contributions in the field of animal nutrition and physiology, more particularly towards productivity enhancement for profitable and sustainable livestock production, enhancing production efficiency of livestock through essential physiological and nutritional approaches. Despite the fact that the Institute is ordered to conduct basic and fundamental research, yet the Institute has appreciatively contributed at farm gate level likewise with a few of its innovative research findings, which has helped the Institute in making its own mark and become well-known among not only the animal husbandry practitioners, but also the feed industry sector.
