The National Institute on Aging (NIA) strives to discover what may contribute to a healthy and sound old age as well as to comprehend and address the disease and incapacity sometimes associated with growing older. NIA is a division of the U.S. NIH (National Institutes of Health), located in Bethesda with its headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. It is headed by the Director, Richard J. Hodes. Their mission is to help and conduct genetic, biological, clinical, behavioral, social, and economic research on aging, cultivate the advancement of research and clinician researchers in aging, provide research resources, disseminate information about aging and advances in research to the public, health care professionals, and the scientific community among a variety of audiences.
