Minjiang University is a public university located in Minhou County, Fuzhou, Fujian, China. The university is a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary university accredited by the Chinese
Education Ministry.
Minjiang University, established in 2002 with the formal approval of the State Ministry of Education, is a state-run full-time multidisciplinary university. It is a merger of the former Fuzhou Teachers College (founded in 1958) and former Minjiang Vocational College (founded in 1984). Located in Fuzhou, the capital city of Fujian Province, MJU is under an
education system of dual leadership by the province and the city (Fuzhou), with the city providing the principal leadership. MJU enrolls students from all over the country. At present, the university has over 18,000 full-time students, 13, 600 of which are undergraduates.
MJU has developed a balanced multidisciplinary student training system. There are 16 departments in MJU: Chinese Language, Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Physics and Electronic Information Engineering, Automobiles, Computer Science, Tourism, Management, Garment Design and Engineering, Art, Geography, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, History, Law, Public
Economics and Finance, and Music. In addition, MJU has set up College of Adult Education, IEN-Start Institute, Software College, Strait College and Fuzhou garment College. The university offers 37 majors for undergraduate students and 38 majors for students of professional training school, ranging from liberal arts to science, engineering, management, economics,
history and law.
Research: MJU places an emphasis on academic research. There is 2 provincial College Engineering Research Center (Electronic Information and Control Engineering Research Center, Textile and Garment Technological Engineering Research Center), as well as 2 Humane and
Social Science Research Center (Mindu
History & Culture Research Center, Haixi Economic Zone Local
Finance and Development Research Center). MJU also contains scientific research institutions like the Fuzhou Local Custom and Culture Research Institute, the Fuzhou Textile and Apparel Technology Innovation Center, the Computer & Control Technology Research Institute, Institute of Textile & Clothing, the Art Design Research Institute, the Lacquer Art Research Institute, the Chinese Painting Research Institute, and the Geographic Information Research Institute. Since 2002, MJU has been undertaking five nationally funded "863 Project" programs, one national social study project, seven national science fund projects, 113 authorized scientific and research projects of provincial (ministry) level, and has won more than 50 scientific and research achievement awards issued by the provincial and municipal governments and above, more than 10 authorized patents, and has published more than 120 scholarly works and over 3500 theses, more than 70 of which have been included in the three big retrieval systems such as SCI.
Inspired by the motto of "Honoring perfection, striving for excellence", the 50-year-old MJU maintains good school spirit, teaching quality and adheres to its strategy of training people to meet the demands of Chinas economic development. It will stride toward the goal of an open and outstanding, applied, multidisciplinary, teaching-centered undergraduate university.
