Markets, Organizations and Votes in
Economics (MOVE) was born into the rich academic and research environment of the
Economics Department at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). The success story that has brought Barcelona economists to play a significant role in European
economics started here in the 1970’s, and Bellaterra economists have ever since maintained a leading role in that process.
MOVE is an integral part of this tendency to enrich economic research in the Barcelona area. MOVE was jointly created in December 2008 as a research consortium by the Catalan Ministry for Universities and Research and the UAB. Salvador Barberà was appointed to be its first director in the summer of 2009.
The main objective of MOVE (Markets, Organizations and Votes in Economics) is to promote frontier research in economics, building on the already substantial
economics research and educational programs that have made of the Bellaterra campus an important part of the research community within Barcelona, Spain and Europe. This objective is carried by MOVEs Research Fellows.
MOVE has close relation with the Department of
Economics and Economic
History at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Institute of Economic Analysis (CSIC), both located at the Bellaterra Campus, as well as with Barcelona Graduate School of Economics.
