Lingnan University (LU) is the only liberal arts university in the territory, and has the longest established tradition among all local institutions of higher education. In addition to honours Bachelors degree programmes, the University also offers Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes in Chinese, Cultural Studies, English, History, Philosophy, Translation, Visual Studies, Business,
Economics and Social Sciences. Both the MPhil and PhD programmes lead to in-depth study in specific research areas.
Academics: Lingnan also offers a great variety of taught masters, research masters and PhD programmes, and there are over 3,000 students in total studying in the small liberal arts university.
Research: The Research Committee (RC) is charged with the formulation of policies for the promotion, conduct, and supervision and funding of research in the University. It decides on internal funding allocations and monitors progress of research projects funded by various grants. Research and Postgraduate Studies Committees at the Faculty level undertake initial assessment of applications for internal grants and make funding recommendations to the RC. The Office of Research Support (ORS) provides administrative support for research and knowledge transfer (KT) activities of the University and secretarial service for the RC.
