Laidlaw College

Laidlaw College was also known as Bible College of New Zealand. The college has been began in 1922 as the Bible Training Institute (BTI) under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Kemp, a Baptist preacher and pastor of the Auckland Baptist Tabernacle. In 1972 the Institute was renamed the Bible College of New Zealand. It has since grown to become one of the largest tertiary theological institutions in the South Pacific. In August 2008, the enlarged college was renamed Laidlaw College in honor of Robert Laidlaw. Laidlaw College is the largest interdenominational Christian College in Aotearoa New Zealand, offering qualifications from certificate to doctoral level, in the areas of theology and biblical studies, mission, ministry, counseling and teacher education. We provide a dynamic learning environment for students throughout Aotearoa New Zealand and around the world, with two campuses in Auckland, one in Christchurch and great distance learning opportunities too. The courses are Biblical Theology, Ways of Knowing, Formation, Worldview and Ways of Life. Laidlaw College seeks to equip students and scholars, and “discovery” provides a crucial underpinning in this mission. All truth is embedded in the creative love of a communicating God. The end of research is thus discovery of the nature of God as revealed in his creative and redemptive acts. Laidlaw faculty and students are participants in this discovery, and we believe that all enquiry is pursued in community. In order to facilitate a community approach to research and learning, Laidlaw’s Blaiklock Centre provides a physical space for this to happen, as well as a forum for discussion and critique.
