Laboratory of Immunology major research activities concern the basic genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, and cellular immunology. The goal of the Laboratory of
Immunology is to perform cutting edge, quality research in
immunology and
infectious diseases that is designed to better understand the normal physiologic state and the processes which perturb it, with special emphasis on inflammatory mechanisms in the eye as a
model system. In pursuit of this goal we capitalize on the unique research environment at NIH and the constant interaction between clinician and basic researcher. The Laboratory is headed by its Chief, Dr. Robert Nussenblatt. Day-to-day operations are overseen by the Deputy Lab Chief, Dr. Rachel Caspi.
The Laboratory of
Immunology aims at surveillance of
infectious diseases caused by
viruses like
Hepatitis B virus, Human and Avian
Influenza viruses, Measles, Rubella, Parvovirus, New castle Disease Virus, other avian viruses.
The
Immunology Laboratory has extensive experience performing and interpreting tests for the diagnosis and
management of a variety of immune-mediated diseases.
