Introduction: Keimyung University is a private university situated in South Korea was founded in 1594 by Reverend Edward Adams, an American missionary of the Northern Presbyterian Church of the United States, and by Reverends Choi Jaehwa and Kang Ingu, two local Presbyterian Church leaders. It rose to the status of a university in 1978. The present president of the university is Synn Ilhi. Keimyung University has expanded its global networks and now offers a variety of international programs. The university has forged exchange partnerships with 262 universities and organizations in 49 countries. The university provides various on campus facilities like
health care centre, international lounge, Adams chapel, Hanhak-Chon – place to learn and understand traditional Korean culture, museum. Keimyung’s common objectives for the year can be summarized as “education” and “research”.
Campuses and Affiliation: Keimyung University has two main campuses in Seongseo and Daemyung. Keimyung university’s global programs overseas outreach program, language programs, dual degree and student exchange programs based on international ties with 298 colleges and 46 institutions in 57 countries. The university offers about 100 scholarships to help students afford tuition fees. The university is running two specialized colleges from 2017. One is Artech college committed to nurture the talented individuals needed for their time of convergence between
humanities and art. The other one is Tabula Rasa College which focuses on
education in the
humanities and personality development to foster all round global leaders with high ethical standards.
Statistics: Keimyung University has 3,976 Undergraduate courses among which 449 courses are offered in English and 903 Postgraduate Courses. The university has around 1,060 Korean faculties, 145 international Faculties and about 627 administrative staff. The student enrolments for the academic year are 23,155 students for Undergraduate studies, 2,252 students for Post graduate studies and 743 international students. The university has partnerships with 197 affiliated universities and institutions globally in 57 countries.
Research and Development: Keimyung University has a number of research centres varying in different aspects of general research and special research. The general research institutes has 13 different institutes varying in different fields of research such as
business and entrepreneurship, life science, industrial science, social sciences, medical science, international studies,
cancer research
nursing science, humanities, natural science, brain, kidney research and women’s studies. Some of the special research institutes are cardiovascular,
ecosystem management,
health care information and technology, accounting, statistical, migration and multiculture, Korean folk painting, sports science, tea culture,
drug development natural products, urban environmental planning, Asian Christianity, green fusion technology,
pain research, border studies and clinical nutrition.
