Kasturba Medical College (KMC) is one of the best and prestigious medical colleges located in Manipal, Udupi District Karnataka, India. Dr T.M.A. Pai established this college on 30 June 1953. The Hindu and India Today ranked KMC Manipal as the top 3 medical colleges in India. It was also ranked among the top 5 medical colleges by both the Hindustan Times and the India Today-Nielsen Survey (2014). Its Medical degree (MBBS) is recognized all over the world along with the the General Medical Council, ECFMG, Australian Medical Council and Malaysian Medical Council among several others.
Earlier KMC was under the recognition of the Mangalore University and later the government of India granted Deemed University status to Manipal University (formerly known as MAHE) in 1993. It has several beneficial and prestigious students exchange programs with Loma Linda University, USA, Operation Eyesight Universal, Canada, Tayside University, Dundee, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA and Maastricht University, the Netherlands.
KMC got recognition by Medical Council of India in 1958 and it was soon followed by the General Medical Council of Great Britain and the Malaysian Medical Council. Admission in the Undergraduate courses at Manipal University occurs through the highly competitive exam, Manipal University Online Entrance Test (MUOET, a computer-based test) which is mostly conducted in the month of May.
