The Institute of Natural Resources and Agrobiology of Seville is a research center attached to the State Agency for Scientific Research (CSIC ), attached to the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness .The mission of IRNAS is to investigate the use and conservation of natural resources , soil, water and plant, with particular attention to arid and semiarid areas, to address the problems arising from their exploitation. In addition to pursuing scientific production of quality and international prominence, useful components and tools are developed for users of agricultural and forestry resources, environmental protection agencies and the Administration. It is about helping to increase productivity while protecting the environment and ensuring the sustainability of resource. Research of IRNAS: Geochemical-Organic Analysis of Soils and Sediments. Dynamics of agrochemicals and pollutants in the soil-water system and reduction of environmental pollution. Environmental microbiology: diversity, genomics, physiology and biotechnology of microorganisms in diverse environments. Integrated studies in the soil-water-plant system, related to the use of organic and chemical fertilizers, and amendments. Development of irrigation strategies and irrigation programming methods to increase water productivity, achieve an optimal balance between production and quality and reduce the environmental impact of irrigation. Study of genes related to ion transport, osmotic and water regulation in plants, longevity of seeds and photosynthetic organs and tolerance of plants to abiotic stresses, especially those caused by salinity, drought and hot. Methods of propagation of plant species of agricultural or forestry interest. Assessment of agroforestry. Study of the dynamics and functioning of Mediterranean forest ecosystems in different scenarios of global change.
