CIC is a comprehensive
cancer research center established in 1997 that, in response to the American Comprehensive
Cancer Center model, is characterized by integrating competitive and excellence
cancer research into three distinct levels: basic, clinical, and applied or translational. The CIC is constituted around the Institute of Molecular and Cellular
Biology of
Cancer (IBMCC), which has the character of Joint University Institute, dependent of the University of Salamanca (USAL) and the Higher Council of Scientific Research (CSIC). It is also recognized as
Health Center by the
Health System of Castilla y León (SACYL).
The work of this Center should emphasize the multidisciplinary nature of its research orientation, covering a broad spectrum that ranges from basic laboratory research to the clinical field. The CIC is conceived as an element of agglutination of the best
human resources existing in the field of
cancer research at the regional (Castilla y León) and national level, with vocation to be a reference for its quality, both nationally and internationally.
The CIC of Salamanca operates according to operating statutes agreed by the USAL and the CSIC, implementing the recommendations of the Board of Trustees of the
Cancer Research Foundation of the University of Salamanca (FICUS), the External Scientific Advisory Committee and the
Management Of the Foundation. Scientific services units are: Tumour Bank,Bioinformatic Unit, Genomic Unit,
Proteomics Unit, Microscopy Unit, Traslational Oncopharmacology Unit, Unit of Molecular & Cellular Diagnostics, Genetic Counseling unit & Hereditary Cancer,
Structural Biology Unit
