The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), IIT Kanpur is an engineering and research institution located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh established in 1959 as one of the first Indian Institutes of Technology, by the Government of India under the IIT Act. P. K. Kelkar was the first Director of the Institute, after whom the Central Library of IIT Kanpur was renamed in 2002 as the P. K. Kelkar Library. The institute was commenced in December 1959 in a room inside the canteen constructing of the Harcourt Butler Technological Institute at Agricultural Gardens in Kanpur. In 1963, the institute moved to its present place, on the Grand Trunk Road close to the village of Kalyanpur in Kanpur district. IITH offers B.Tech, M.
