Indian Institute of Technology is a group of autonomous institutes established by government of India that offers engineering and
management courses. The abbreviation for Indian Institute of Technology is IIT. There are sixteen institutes that are listed in Institutes of Technology Act, 1961. The sixteen institutes are located at Delhi, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Roorkee, Indore, Chennai, Guwahati, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Gandhinagar, Kharagpur, Mandi, Patna, Varanasi and Ropar. Indian Institute of technology at Delhi is the top ranked among all the IITs. Indian Institute of Kharagpur is the first founded IIT in the year 1950. Admissions into IITs are done through different tests for different programs.
