The Government College University has started as a primary school in 1897 in the present building of Government College for Women, Karkhana Bazar, Faisalabad. It was further promoted to High School in 1905 and Intermediate College in 1924. The degree level was started in 1933 and postgraduate disciplines were introduced in 1963. The government of the Punjab declared Government College, Faisalabad an autonomous institution in 1990. It was granted the status of University in 2002. Government College University Faisalabad is a general university in the industrial and agricultural hub of Pakistan, Faisalabad. It is occupying 5th position in general universities ranking list in latest university rankings by HEC and GCUF. There are more than 35 faculties in GCUF including Electrical Engineering and Pharmacy. Electrical engineering department is affiliated with Pakistan Engineering Council and Pharmacy department is affiliated with Pakistan Pharmacy Council.
