Ghent University, abbreviated to UGent, is highly ranked Dutch-speaking public university. It distinguishes itself as a socially committed and pluralistic university, open to all students, in a broad international perspective. Established in 1817 by King William I of the Netherlands, Ghent University is now located in Ghent, Belgium. It is headed by the Rector, Anne De Paepe. UGent has strength of 41,000 students, 9,000 staff members and 11 faculties composed of more than 120 faculty departments. All of which offer high-quality courses in every one of their scientific disciplines, each inspired by innovative research. It has been ranked as a top 100 university according Times Higher Education World University Rankings and the QS World University Rankings. One of the largest Flemish universities, Ugent occupies an important position and serves as the basis for the process of change and strategic policy planning at all levels. It is also the touchstone for the day-to-day management of the university.
