 Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University (FSMVU) is a newly established higher education institute whose goal is to be at the forefront of Turkish higher education and research. FSMVU is located on the historical peninsula of Istanbul’s European side. Therefore, FSMVU has a unique mission for the Turkish Higher Education system in the heart of Istanbul where daily life intertwines with culture, history, and art.  Its supporting waqf, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif was however, established in 1470 and has been providing such facilities for over five centuries. FSMVU emerged from the historical waqf tradition which played an influential role in the scientific, civic, and cultural life throughout Ottoman history. Being privileged to have its origins in the centuries old civic and academic heritage, FSMVU strives to carry on this tradition by combining traditional education with contemporary knowledge. The vision is to become an academic institution whose primary aim is to prepare individuals with professional awareness, and in light of scientific studies at national and international level, equip them from a cultural and social standpoint. The University has 7 faculties which are Faculty of Literature, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Education. There are 6 institutes including Institute of Social Sciences , Institute of Fine Arts, Institute of Engineering and Phys. Sci. , Alliance Of Civilizations Institute, Institute Of Fuat Sezgin, Institute of Educational Sciences. There are 6 campsus namely: Fatih (Rectorate), Campus at Halic, Campus at Topkapi, Campus at Kandilli, Campus at Küçükçamlıca and Campus at Valide-i Atik Complex. The Founder of the University is General Directorate of Foundations, Republic of Turkey Prime Ministry. It was established in 2010. There are about 75 faculty members. FSMV University is made up of 15 principal academic units - 7 faculties, 6 institutes and 2 vocational schools. The Research centres of the University are KURAM, ALUTEAM. Kuram is an application research center that will act on the protection of movable and immovable foundation cultural assets in accordance with the foundation documents of the General Directorate of Foundations and the foundation purposes of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University. Within this scope; The Istanbul Development Agency presented a project proposal entitled "Foundation Cultural Heritage Restoration and Conservation Laboratory, Application and Research Center" to the 2012 Financial Development Program for the Development of Yearly Creative Industries. Aluminum Test Training and Research Center (ALUTEAM) has emerged as a project. Fatih Sultan Mehmet Founded with the support of Vakif University and the important representatives of the aluminum industry, the foundation of the project, which was jointly carried out by the Entrepreneur Aluminum Industrialists and Businessmen Association (GALSÄ°AD), was taken in cooperation protocol signed at "AluExpo".
