Fulda University of Applied Sciences formerly known as Fachhochschule Fulda, was founded as the fifth state Fachhochschule in Hesse in 1974. Established in 1971, the college was part of the University of Applied Sciences Gießen, until the location became an independent institution in 1974.
In 2006, the university was renamed Hochschule Fulda - University of Applied Sciences due to the restructuring of German and European higher
education under the Bologna process. Students at the university can now obtain accredited Bachelor and Master degrees. In accordance with European standards graduates of Fachhochschulen in Germany are now authorized to be admitted into the Höhere Dienst and for Doctorate programs at research universities. University offers many courses including short-term and summer programmes, semester and academic year exchange programmes, full-time degree programmes, international Master’s programmes and preparatory programmes, as well as a career service for international students.
Fulda University of Applied Sciences aims to support aspiring female scientists in all departments. Increasing the number of female professors in general and the number of students in STEM-programs, as well as securing and creating career opportunities for post-grad students seeking a career in science are main priorities. Quality standards as well as transparency and the involvement of womens representatives in all appointment procedures ensure that women who apply for a teaching position at the university will not be discriminated against.
Fulda University of Applied Sciences covers a broad spectrum of academic and professional education. The Departments of Applied Computer Science,
Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Business, Food Technology,
Nursing and
Health Sciences, Nutrition, Food and Consumer Sciences, Social and Cultural Sciences and Social Work teach numerous first-degree programmes, graduate programmes and other educational offerings.
