Daegu University was founded on the philosophies of good will and charity and with a motto of "Love, Light, and Freedom". Under these ideals, Daegu University has strived to provide opportunities to handicapped and socially-challenged people while simultaneously producing capable young men and women who are well-equipped to be the mainstays of a civil society and to maintain Daegu Universitys founding ideals of philanthropy.
The College of Educations predecessor was the Korea Social Work School. The Korea Social Work School was founded in 1956. Its main objective was the training of competent teachers for physically and mentally challenged members of society. Since its reorganization and reformation into the School of Education in 1979 and its elevation to its present status as the College of Education in 1981, the College has produced outstanding kindergarten, primary, and secondary school teachers.
The first step toward the future - As it meets its 50th Anniversary, Daegu University has begun its reemergence to become a prominent century-old university. Its grandiose 1000-acre campus and 500-acre Muncheonji Lake make Daegu Universitys surroundings the perfect place to develop the limitless potential hidden within its students. 2006 marks Daegu Universitys 50th Anniversary and the first year of its transformational rebirth.
Daegu Universitys 50th Anniversary also has a significant meaning to the surrounding community. The philanthropic spirit of Daegu University has been in place and serving the community since it was founded more than a half century ago.
