The State Agency for Scientific Research (CSIC) is the largest public institution dedicated to research in Spain and the third in Europe. Under the Ministry of
Economy and Competitiveness, through the State Secretariat for Research, Development and Innovation, its main objective is to develop and promote research for the benefit of scientific and technological progress, for which it is open to collaboration with Spanish entities and foreign. The construction of the delegation building established a scientific and cultural space in the centre of the city. The Delegation of the CSIC in Catalonia has a trajectory of more than 60 years in the service of the investigation. CSIC play a central role in science and technology policy ranging from basic research to the transfer of knowledge to the productive sector. It consists of more than 15,000 workers, of which more than 3,000 are in-house researchers and as many doctors and scientists in training. CSIC has 6% loyal to Research and Development in Spain which develops 20% of scientific production. CSIC, it has often been seen as one more organ of the ideological apparatus of Francoism. The Higher Council for Scientific Research was created in 1939. Institutional Entrustment in Catalonia is headed by Dr. Luis Calvo who has been coordinating from May 01, 2000.
