The University was established as “Zonguldak Karaelmas University” on July 11th 1992 and was later named as “Bulent Ecevit University” on April 11th 2012. This was moved to Istanbul in 1961. It is consisting of Mining, Mechanics, Electricity and Construction departments. Bülent Ecevit University is recognized as a regional university, which operates in five nearby towns. Bulent Ecevit University helps to “educate inquiring, creative, productive, enterprising, competitive, socially improved and patriotic individuals, who were in the line of Ataturkist thought and ethical values and embrace contemporary and ethical values, believe in the supremacy of the law, and can contribute to science, technology, culture and art on both national and international levels”. This university has 236 foreign students from 38 different countries, thirteen of which are European countries, seven are African countries and eighteen are Asian countries with an academic staff of 1093 and 1,249 administrative staff. These daysdevelopment of strategic approaches to internationalisation is a necessity for universities; they compete in a challenging international environment, which is affecting all elements of the
education system. In 2012 during internationalizationthe university has become a member of the European University Association (EUA). During the same year the membership application to Black Sea Universities Network (BSUN) was accepted to establish a network with academic institutions in the Black Sea Region.
