Bohai University established in 1950, is a university in Jinzhou, Liaoning province, northeast China. The current name Bohai University is used after the merge of Jinzhou Normal College and Liaoning Commercial College in 2003. Jinzhou Normal College was established in 1950 which is aim to train teachers in Jinzhou and nearby cities. Liaoning Commercial College was founded the next year to provide commercial talents to support the building of the
business industry in Liaoning Province.
BU has established 17 sub-level colleges administering 44 programs for bachelors degree and programs for associate degree. BU owns 16 programs for Level-1 masters degree, 71 programs for Level-2 masters degree, and 5 programs for professional masters degree, and such programs range from philosophy to economics, laws, education, humanities, history, science, engineering,
management and arts. There are now more than 22,000 postgraduates and full-time college students. Bohai University is a comprehensive educator that provides comprehensive
education to undergraduate degree, graduate degree, and diploma seekers. It has 20 colleges that offer bachelor’s and master’s degree
education in literature, politics and history, mathematics and physics, chemistry, chemical engineering and food Safety, college of
information science and technology (software and service outsourcing), engineering
economy and law, management, tourism, foreign languages,
education and P.E., arts and communications, international exchange (South Korea), Marxism, new energy, finance, commerce and
trade advanced vocation and technology (maritime and applied technology), adult education, training, liberal arts and science.
Bohai University has established international collaboration with 32 universities and educational institutes in United States, Germany, Britain, Japan, Korea, Australia and Russia. Bohai University is also actively developing collaboration with Taiwan
education community. It comprises of over 1069 Administrative staff, 23450 Students, 16700 Undergraduates, 5400 Postgraduates, 1350 Doctoral students.
By enhancing its own software and hardware environments, BU has made a great leap forward in its multiple performances. According to the investigations made by some national evaluation institutes, such as Wushulian, Wangdawang, Alumni Network, and Research Center for Chinas Science Evaluation, BU is listed near to the 200th place among 800 state-owned higher schools in China, and is ranked to the 8th best university in Liaoning Province. In 2012 Chinese university academic paper ranking list—"ESI-TOP", it is ranked as the 68th among Chinas 100 best universities, and as the first one among higher schools in Liaoning Province.
The Journal of Bohai University (Natural Science Edition) has been rated as Chinas Core Journal in Science and Technology, and the Journal of Bohai University (Philosophy and
Social Science Edition) has been ranked as National Quality Journal of High Schools and the first-level journal of Liaoning Province. Two academic papers by teachers of Bohai University entered into "Chinas Top 100 Academic Papers of Highest International Influence in 2015", making Bohai University ranked No. 7 among national universities and No. 1 among universities in Liaoning Province.
