Established in the year 1984, The Beckman Research Institute (BRI) is a research facility located at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, CA, United States. The institute focuses on Cancer Biology, Cancer Immunotherapeutics & Tumor Immunology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases Research, Immunology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Molecular Medicine, Molecular Pharmacology, Neurosciences, Virology. Nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, Beckman Research Institute was the first of five Beckman Institutes to be founded. The Beckman Research Institute (BRI) is unique because it has held a National Cancer Institute Cancer Center Support Grant for more than 30 years. The magazine�s 2014-2015 lists of best hospitals for cancer once again includes City of Hope, ranking the institution 12 out of 900 eligible for consideration. The Beckman Research Institute (BRI) is one of only 41 institutions in the nation to be designated as a comprehensive cancer center by the National Cancer Institute, a factor considered by the U.S. News rankings. The institute was dedicated in 1952, and endowed by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation in 1983 when it was given its current name. The Beckman Research Institute (BRI) s current director is Richard Jove, Ph.D. More than 1,500 researchers from 43 University of Illinois departments as far-ranging as psychology, computer science, electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, and bioengineering comprising 13 Beckman Institute groups, work within and across these overlapping areas. The building is magnificent and offers more than 200 offices; specialized, state-of-the-art laboratories and other facilities; and meeting areas.
