Alagappa University was established in 1985 by the Special Act of the Government of Tamilnadu with the vision to support forest research and development. The University is recognised with University grant Commission (UGC) of India and has 23 Departments, 6 Centres and 2 Constituent Colleges; also 31 affiliated colleges in Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram are under the Algappa University. The mission of the University is to provide excellence in all spheres of its action. The University have all modes of regular, week end, distance and collaborative education and offers a variety of programmes. The University is the member of many associations as Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Association of Common Wealth Universities (ACU) and rewarding affairs with other educational institutions, research laboratories and industries.
