Aalborg University Hospital is the largest hospital in the North Denmark Region, Denmark. The new university hospital is a collaborative effort between Aalborg University and the North Denmark Region and includes two of the region’s hospitals that, until now, had been known as Aalborg Hospital and Aalborg Psychiatric Hospital. The two hospitals have been part of Aarhus University Hospital for a number of years so we know what we’re dealing with. The two hospitals are accustomed to living up to the highest standards and having medical students in the halls. Still, this will be something completely new and different. Aalborg University Hospital conducts high-quality pregraduate and postgraduate training and research. Its staff publish some 500 peer-reviewed
articles every year and take part in projects and networks sponsored by national, EU and other international research funds and programmes. Aalborg University Hospital enjoys a particularly strong position within research fields such as clinical epidemiology, medical gastroenterology, lipidology, visceral biomechanics,
cardiology and haematology. The study of pain, metabolic disorders and clinical
nursing are also highly prioritised areas. The Clinical
Nursing Research Unit is hosted by Aalborg Hospital Science and Innovation Center, which offers access to a number of facilities and administrative functions shared by other research groups. A fully equipped library, experimental and innovation laboratories, communications and patenting staff are all available to researchers. Research management, fund-raising and professional training are also located at the centre. Robotic
surgery has been shown in many cases to be gentler than conventional surgery. With the purchase of a third robot, we can offer North Jutland patients the most modern and gentle surgical treatment in several specialties including gastrointestinal surgical
cancer patients, says Inge Bernstein, Senior Physician in the specialty. The grant also provides Aalborg University Hospital the opportunity to establish a robotic
surgery center that combines clinical care across specialties,
education and research in robotic surgery. The hospitals ambition is to cement its position as the national center for development, research and training in robotic surgery.
