Susan Haynes, Ph.D., is the chief of the Developmental and Cellular Processes Branch in the Division of Genetics and Developmental Biology, where she manages a research program on the basic biology of embryonic and adult stem cells, including germ cells, and on the fundamental mechanisms of regeneration. Haynes began her career by studying the genetic control of early embryonic development in Drosophila (fruit flies) at NIH's National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. She then shifted her focus to the role of Drosophila RNA binding proteins in the post-transcriptional regulation of egg and sperm development. Prior to joining NIGMS, she was a faculty member in the department of biochemistry and molecular biology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD.
